Who is this class for?
This class is open to all skill levels and touches on many basic techniques used in flameworking. No previous experience is needed, so it is great for beginners interested in testing the waters.
You will learn how to safely operate different types of torches and use a variety of tools to manipulate solid and blown molten glass. You will also experiment with other forms of glass such as frit and striking colors.
What will you be making?
During our 1-day beginner glassblowing class, you will create and keep 2 blown pieces and 3 solid glass pieces, including 3 marbles and 2 blown ornaments.
To make your work uniquely your own, you will have a palette of colors to choose from. Once you finish your pieces, they are placed into kilns and ready for pick-up or delivery within a few days.
Individual workstations and small groups
You will be working on individual stations with all materials, tools, and safety equipment included.
Groups for our glass-blowing classes are small, and they are limited to up to 6 students. So there is plenty of time for our experienced glassblowing instructors to guide you through all of the steps needed to create your first glass pieces.
What is flameworking?
Flameworking is a type of glassblowing in which a torch is used to melt the glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing and shaping with tools and hand movements. It is a little easier for beginners and allows the student to do the process completely themselves.
It is also known as lampworking or torchworking.
